Doctoral research has a peculiar structure: you are expected to become, within a few years, enough of a methodologist to execute a novel empirical study to publishable standard—while also mastering your field, teaching, and often working to a stipend and a clock. For the analytical core of the thesis, you may be reaching for a method you have used once, in a class, on clean textbook data. Now you have to apply it correctly to messy real data, defend every choice to a committee, and satisfy a referee who does this for a living.
Supervision helps, but it has limits. Supervisors are stretched, and their own methodological training may predate the technique your project needs. Departmental statistics support, where it exists at all, is often a queue for a generalist who does not know your field. And the stakes are unforgiving: an underpowered study, an untested assumption, or a misapplied estimator discovered at the viva or in review can cost months, sometimes force a whole chapter to be redone, and in the worst cases derail a submission timeline that your funding depends on.

A word on academic integrity
We are careful about this, because doctoral research has clear rules and we respect them completely. Methodological and statistical support is a normal, accepted, and widespread part of research—universities employ statisticians, methods consultants, and core facilities for exactly this reason, and acknowledging analytical assistance is standard scholarly practice. What is not acceptable is having someone else do the intellectual work that the degree is meant to certify, and we do not offer that. We will not write your thesis, generate your ideas, or manufacture your contribution.
Where the line falls is usually clear, and where it is not, we discuss it openly and defer to your institution's rules and your supervisor's guidance. If you are unsure whether a particular kind of help is appropriate for your programme, ask us—we would far rather have that conversation up front than put your degree at risk. The support we provide is designed to make you a more capable, more confident independent researcher, which is the entire point of a doctorate; it is not designed to bypass it.
The methods doctoral research most often needs
Different disciplines lean on different techniques, and part of our value is having genuine specialists across all of them rather than one generalist stretched thin. In economics and finance doctorates, the demand is usually for econometrics—panel and time-series models, and increasingly causal-inference designs like difference-in-differences and instrumental variables—and for the diagnostics that make those estimates defensible. In management, marketing, and organizational research, the workhorse is structural equation modelling, where the recurring failure point is measurement: constructs that are not reliably or validly measured before the structural model is estimated. We fix that ordering, and handle mediation, moderation, and measurement invariance correctly.
In fields drawing on psychology or education, longitudinal and multilevel designs come up constantly, and the modern standard—random-intercept cross-lagged panel models that separate within-person change from stable between-person differences—is now expected by reviewers but rarely taught well. A growing share of doctoral work is also reaching for machine learning and text-as-data, where the challenge is not running the model but making it interpretable and publishable in a field that expects explanation, not just prediction. And for review-based theses, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, and bibliometric mapping have become chapters in their own right, with their own standards. Whichever of these your project needs, the person who works on it will be someone who uses that method routinely, not someone encountering it for the first time on your data.

A note for international and early-career researchers
A particular group we work with often is researchers for whom English is an additional language, or who trained in a system with limited access to advanced methods teaching. The barrier for these researchers is rarely the quality of their ideas—it is that a strong contribution can be undervalued when the methods are applied slightly off current convention, or when the reporting does not read the way an international journal expects.
